[ENGLEE, NL] — The government of Newfoundland and Labrador will demolish a defunct fish plant in Englee.
Sea Treat Ltd., the plant's owner, was ordered in March to dismantle and clean up the site in the Northern Peninsula town.
But the government says Sea Treat hasn't complied, and as a result, it has decided to knock down the abandoned building.
Service Newfoundland and Labrador says the town indicated that the plant was deteriorating to the point where sections of its roof were separating and a part of the building began leaning towards a road.
According to provincial records, Sea Treat was dissolved in 2009 and town officials have been trying to get the plant ownership issues resolved after the owners walked away seven years ago.
